Memorial Day Program at Veterans Field

On Monday, May 29, 2017, the annual Memorial Day program at Veterans Field on Street Road in Southampton, sponsored by Pennypack Post 800 of the American Legion, is open to the public and starts at 9:30AM sharp.  This year's scheduled keynote speaker is Craig Wilhelm, the 9th District Commander, American Legion, Department of Pennsylvania. The ceremony includes the laying of wreaths at the concrete markers along the Street Road side of the field, which have the names of Southampton area servicemen who sacrificed their lives in combat, ranging from World War II to Viet Nam, usually done with the assistance of the local Boy Scout Troop. The Marine Corps League provides the firing team for the rifle salute, followed by "TAPS" which is played by trumpeters of the William Tennent High School Panther Marching Band. The invocation and benediction are offered by our post's Chaplain.

Local political officials are normally invited to be part of the official party, including State Senator Stewart Greenleaf, Bucks County Commissioner Charlie Martin, and members of the Township's Board of Supervisors and the Centennial School District, as well as the leadership team of the Upper Southampton Police Department and Upper Southampton Fire Department.

It is recommended that you bring your own folding/beach chair for your personal comfort.

Proper decorum and respect are requested during the prayers, the playing of the National Anthem, and the rifle salute.
